DIY T-Shirt Challenge

Join the DIY Fashion Design T-Shirt Challenge and compete for a $500 grand prize. This is your chance to transform old t-shirts into stunning clothes using one of our exclusive patterns — when you sign up, you’ll receive a 75% discount on the pattern of your choice.

What’s the Challenge?

We’re inviting makers, sewists, and upcycling enthusiasts to create a brand-new garment using mostly secondhand T-Shirts.

The rules are simple:

1. Your final piece must be made from at least 75% recycled t-shirts.
2. You create the piece using one of our Dress patterns (from the selection below)
3. Textile design techniques like stenciling, fabric paint, mola,embroidery, dye, bleach, etc.
4. Add your imagination and personal flair!

The sewing patterns to use for this challenge are any one of our dresses:
The Zoe, Josie, Eva, Patti, Donna, Maggy, Jerry, Sarah, Janine, Katie, Rita, Sofia, Natalie or the Petra.

Bonus: Belt pattern (to elevate your look)

You'll receive a 75% discount code for your chosen pattern upon registration (that is like $2.50 for a pattern).

Important Dates

All entries must be submitted by Friday, July 11 2025.
Our jury will review submissions on July 12.
The winner will be officially announced on July 13.

The Judges

Your work will be evaluated by a diverse panel of three fashion-forward professionals:

• a Designer,
• a Thrifting Queen
• and a DIY creator.

Together, they’ll assess each submission on creativity, craftsmanship, originality, and your use of upcycled materials.

How to Enter

1. Register using the form below
2. Download your pattern (you’ll get a 75% off code)
3. Create your piece using mostly used t-shirts (at least 3/4 of the dress)
4. Photograph your result (front, back, detail shots encouraged)
5. Submit your entry through the same form before July 11 2025!
